We are thrilled to share the remarkable journey of Bomax Architects at The International Design & Architecture Awards 2023, where our project, House Llandudno, stood shoulder to shoulder with the world’s finest architectural creations. Directors Dion Walters and Joshua Brodie represented Bomax with pride and passion at the gala event held in London, England, on 8 September 2023.
House Llandudno, a testament to our commitment to sustainable and innovative design, was shortlisted earlier this year for the esteemed Residential Architectural Property category. This recognition alone is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our talented team.
While in London, our directors seized the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of architectural marvels the city offers. The experience was about networking, inspiration, and a commitment to our environmental ethos. Travelling through central London’s streets was made eco-conscious by choosing OVO Energy’s zero-emission e-cab – a small step towards a sustainable future.
A Spotlight on Residential Design Excellence
Hosted by design et al, a leading UK interior design magazine, these awards focus on celebrating the best in design within the residential sector. They serve as a platform to commend creativity, nurture talent, and inspire new possibilities.
At the heart of The International Design & Architecture Awards is the belief that true design excellence lies in putting your work out there for the world to appreciate, debate, and consider, and it is precisely what we did. House Llandudno’s nomination exemplifies this spirit of transparent and collaborative design practices.
With only 12 projects shortlisted per category out of entries submitted worldwide, it’s an honour to announce that House Llandudno secured its place among the top two projects for the Residential Architectural Property category. This recognition is a remarkable achievement for our small yet dynamic firm.
The event itself was nothing short of exceptional. While we did not clinch the top prize, we extend our wholehearted congratulations to Ben Jurin Architecture for their well-deserved win with South Lodge. Their achievement further reinforces the calibre of competition at the event.
Revisiting House Llandudno: Innovation, Skill & Sustainability
House Llandudno is a unique minimalist beachfront residence crafted with cast off-shutter concrete and sustainable materials. Its contemporary forms are a passive design solution, harmonising with the site conditions and the surrounding environment. Sustainability and a focus on energy efficiency were paramount, with a fully controlled automation system making it a house of the future.
One of the most striking features is its razor-edge off-shutter concrete cantilevers, creating an illusion of weightlessness and offering protection against the harsh Atlantic storms. The interior spaces are deliberately simple, allowing nature to take centre stage, with tactile materials simulating the textures of the nearby beach.
This entire experience reignites our resolve at Bomax to continue pushing the boundaries of design. We are deeply grateful for the support and recognition extended to us throughout this incredible journey. A special thanks goes out to all those who took the time to cast their votes for House Llandudno in the public voting phase.
