Breathtaking picturesque views and perfect climate for the finicky Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay vines, made the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley in Hermanus, Cape Town the ideal location for our clients to envisage their new farmhouse retreat. While maintaining adequate overhangs for protection, the views of the great Babylonstoringberge (Babylon's Tower Mountains) set the precedent for us to open the north facade and introduce gable walls to the East and West. The 3 bedroom, open plan living farmhouse begged us to take every opportunity we had to capture the beauty and serenity of the surrounding landscape while maintaining a sense of the past through the fusion of wide natural stone walls, with small openings, and spacious contemporary forms. Anyone with the vaguest interest in wine will know that this is where great wines are made, and we look forward to living up to that complementing it with the finest architecture.
